EMPORIA ROSE: NEW BOOK AT THE PRINTER

Emporia Rose:
Applique Quilts

Karla Menaugh and I have written a new book for C&T Publishing. Here's the cover. Several readers have mentioned they've pre-ordered it. Thanks for buying it based on the cover only! We are expecting delivery mid-June, 2014.
Here's a link to the book on C&T's page:
And over on the left is a link to Amazon which has a recently added preview of the pages.

Emporia Rose by Barbara Brackman

Several years ago I made a sampler of quilt patterns used
in the small town of Emporia, Kansas, where the quilters
designed some spectacular mid-twentieth-century masterpieces.

The most influential was Rose Kretsinger
so we named the sampler Emporia Rose.

I taught some classes when I used to teach. We sold some patterns when we used to sell patterns.

But we thought the quilts and the town's quilting community deserved a whole book so we made more projects.

Karla and her Pennsylvania Beauty top, the cover quilt.

Collection of the
Helen F. Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.

Her inspiration: an unfinished quilt top that Rose
Kretsinger left a needle in.

We worked with the various museums that owned the quilts
and adapted a few designs to modern quilt style:

In the book Karla gives lots of tips, like how she cut and  machine appliqued this wreath.

We'll be talking about Emporia Rose at Quilt Market in Pittsburgh, PA in May.

And here too in future posts.
